Enclosed Car Park & Basement Extraction
An enclosed car park or basement area requires a robust extract ductwork system explicitly suitable for clearing heavy smoke layers and toxic vehicle fumes. In these restricted underground architectures, fire-resisting ductwork provides a perfect, continuous safety baseline solution in lieu of traditional standard ductwork paired with mechanical fire dampers.
Air Change Rate Parameters
To safely clear continuous vehicle emissions under normal conditions, mechanical ventilation networks must reliably provide 6 ACH (Air Changes per Hour) across the plant envelope. In the event of an emergency fire breakthrough, system control tracking causes this metric to rise automatically to 10 ACH to safely clear thick atmospheric blockages. Extract balancing points must be physically arranged so that at least 50% are securely positioned at a high level.
Structural System Requirements
All structural components and mounting fasteners chosen for the build are required to maintain a minimum operational melting point threshold of 800°C under Approved Document B: Fire Safety B3 guidelines. Furthermore, matching standard safety parameters set within BS 9999, traditional moving fire dampers should not be integrated into any basement or enclosed car park extract system layout.
